Marty has been a journalist since 2000.

After a couple of years at the Wairarapa Times-Age, he headed to Hawke's Bay with the intention of staying for six months tops. He's been there ever since. He joined Stuff after a five-year spell at Hawke's Bay Today, where he was chief reporter, and now covers local and national matters. Before journalism, Marty was a ski instructor and wrote a guidebook to the ski areas of New Zealand. The last time he skied his kids fell about laughing at him.
