Kelly has been a journalist for close to a decade, mostly covering courts, crime and justice, with a special interest in feature writing.

She joined the Stuff team in 2013. Auckland-raised, Kelly published her first non-fiction crime book in 2018 and also teaches student journalists part-time at Massey University. In 2018 she relocated to Wellington, where she is a news director for the Sunday Star-Times.
